Since the start of the conflict in Sudan in April 2023 between the regular army and the rapid support forces, close to 500,000 people have taken refuge in eastern Chad, fleeing the violence perpetrated against civilians, particularly in the West Darfur region. They are currently living in several camps, in almost total destitution. MSF has been present since the start of the crisis in the small town of Adré on the border between Chad and Sudan, providing water and healthcare. Between July and December 2023, the organisation received 135 patients at its medical facilities who reported having been raped.
