International humanitarian and security conference

Current challenges to international peace and cooperation: the search for solutions

The Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year has had a profound impact on international affairs, most notably with regard to the maintenance of international peace and security, respect for and the application of international humanitarian and human rights law, aid and protection for internally displaced persons and refugees and many other issues. This conflict has erupted at a time when there are other ongoing conflicts in the world (Yemen, Ethiopia, Afghanistan and elsewhere). Furthermore, many countries are still grappling with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate change is rapidly emerging as of one of the key challenges of our time.

The aim of the conference will be to assess the nature and impact of these crises, and how the international community could respond to these challenges.

Melissa McRae of the UREPH will speak during the 5th session on “Addressing the challenges to global healthcare: Lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic”.
